Predictable British comedy-drama with Imelda Staunton as a middle-class woman who leaves her home after her husband is caught cheating, to move in with her free-spirited sister, Celia Imrie and finds life is much more exciting than she imagined. Saved by some nice performances, especially from Timothy Spall, this is a safe film that follows all the right paths but includes plenty to be depressed about along the way. Perfect Sunday afternoon fodder.

A truly disturbing watch. Colin Farrell is the surgeon who befriends a young boy, whose father died on his operating table. As the boy gets closer to Farrell and his family, it turns out that the doctor's children are taken ill and he is told by the boy that he must make a sacrifice in order for them not to die. Nicole Kidman plays the wife in this creepy tale where the performances are almost emotionless and the score gets under your skin. Nasty, shocking and hypnotic.

Classic Roger Corman sci-fi horror with Ray Milland as a scientist who discovers a serum that can give you x-ray eyes but when he experiments on himself, he finds power he never knew he had. Rather dated now but still plenty to enjoy, none more so than Milland's less than subtle performance and the knowledge that Corman did this quickly and cheaply so you can appreciate his skill. A cult classic.

Mel Brooks' comedy masterpiece pokes affectionate fun at the classic Frankenstein, with Gene Wilder in top form as the grandson of the famous doctor, who inherits his castle and all the trappings, including his lab where history could repeat itself. A quick-witted script and superb support, especially from MArty Feldman as Igor, makes this a repeat viewing pleasure, with quotable lines round every corner. Possibly Brooks' best film?

A film full of emotional depth, from a well-written script and performances that would put most Oscar winners to shame. I joke. This should be filed under so bad its good. The heart-warming story of a murdered ninja whose soul enters into the body of a young woman whose a phone company worker by day and a dancer by night (Flashdance anyone?) Sloppy action scenes, laughable dialogue and dire acting make this a little gem in bad cinema.

They say that fact is stranger than fiction. None more so than the extraordinary story of Tonya Harding, a young girl who dreamed of ice skating fame but became notorious after her nearest rival, Nancy Karrington was attacked and Harding became connected. Margot Robbie is superb as the troubled skater with career-best performances from the brilliant Allison Janney as her foul-mouthed mother and Sebastian Stan as her abusive husband. Funny, cruel, shocking and utterly bizarre.

After the disappointment of Iron Man 2, the franchise is back on form with Shane Black taking the helm. Tony Stark becomes the target of The Mandarin, a terrorist determined to cause havoc, yet this is a distraction to something far eviler. With a much more comic tone and the inclusion of a bonkers performance from Ben Kingsley, this is a fun film that still manages to keep in line with the rest of the MCU.

Marvel go all out for the latest stand-alone movie, for a real game changer. Chadwick Boseman stars as the new king of Wakanda, a nation with a secret ore that can be converted to life-changing technology while giving the king the power of the Black Panther. Yet with threats of having the ore stolen and his reign as king causes problems from the royal. Looking incredible, this has elements of wit, satire while still satisfying fans. A gamble that has paid off.

Marlon Brando stars and directs an ambitious western about a couple of bank robbers who split up only for one to be thrown in jail while the other runs off with the gold and becomes sheriff of a small town. When the prisoner escapes he has revenge on his mind and finds a way by seducing the sheriff's stepdaughter. While slightly too long, this is more a melodrama than an out and out western with Brando and Karl Malden both terrific.

Edward Norton takes on the role of Bruce Banner, the doctor desperate for a cure to remove the creature inside. When he finds a possibility, he returns to America only to find Colonel Ross wants the Hulk for a weapon. The human elements are far more interesting than the fighting and explosions but the final battle between Hulk and the Abomination is fun. I wonder if Edward Norton is now kicking himself for jumping off the Hulk bandwagon?
